Osfontein Guest Farm - Self Catering Accommodation situated between Carnarvon & Loxton in the Karoo, Northern Cape
Welcome to Osfontein Guest Farm! We offer accommodation in 2 stone farmhouses, each accommodating up to 5 guests, and a unique upstairs Treehouse which is a structured safari tent that can accommodate up to 2 guests, and is only a few steps from the pool.
The farmhouses and the tent are equipped for self-catering with kitchen facilities and braai facilities. Electricity is available in each unit, making it possible to charge electronic devices during guests' stay. There is a swimming pool to cool off during the hot summer days. Well-behaved dogs are welcome by prior arrangement.
These antique stone corbelled houses appear only in the Karoo in an attractive small area. They were the first houses built by the Voortrekkers in the early 1800's. Due to a shortage of building materials such as wood in the Karoo they built the houses entirely of stone, even the roof, which was well insulated, being warm in winter and deliciously cool in summer.
Since most of them had fallen into disrepair, we decided to restore the one on our farm, Osfontein and make it available as a guesthouse for tourists, so that they could go back in historical time.

THE CORBELLED HOUSE
Everyone who sleeps here is delighted about this unique experience and wonder, as they look up at the stone roof, who lived there and under what circumstances in those days.
Inside one finds the original fireplace with a thick yellowwood beam - this now serves as a braai/barbeque place. Fires can also be made outside. The house has four rooms, the one bedroom has a double bed and the other two single beds, a bathroom with a wash basin and flushing toilet and a hot shower.
The house is self-catering, with the necessary cutlery, bedding and towels being provided. There is an electric stove and fridge with freezer. Candles are used for lighting so as not to spoil the atmosphere of this unique experience.
Within walking distance is the farmhouse if you need anything or wish to use the swimming pool, but it is far enough away to ensure complete privacy. There is space to take long walks or ride mountain bikes. We also have 4x4 routes for your enjoyment!
THE OLD STONE SHED
The Old Stone Shed used to be an old sheep shearing shed and has been converted into a self-catering unit providing a unique experience when staying in the Karoo. Built from stone,the shed has common reed ceilings and is equipped with electricity.
The house is self-catering with the necessary cutlery, bedding and towels being provided.The lounge area has a fireplace to add to the atmosphere and provide extra warmth in the Karoo winters.
The bathroom is equipped with a wash basin,flushing toilet and a shower with hot water.The unit also has an outdoor shower.
Fires can be made outside and wood can be bought at the farmhouse. The farmhouse is within walking distance if anything is needed and also has a swimming pool where guests can cool off.
With all the wide open spaces, guests can go for long walks or mountain biking. Sitting outside you will see the incredible star filled Karoo sky at night,a must-see, awe-inspiring sight. This is the ideal place for guests who want absolute privacy and do not want to hear noisy cars or people, just the absolute quietness of a Karoo farm, surrounded by the veld....
THE TREEHOUSE​
The first treehouse accommodation in the Karoo! Just as unique as our other guest houses. Guests are on there own and very private with a wonderful view over the Karoo and the only sound you will hear are the birds and the leaves of some 150 year old poplar trees.
The treehouse consists of a luxury Safari Lodge tent on a wooden deck between the trees and in the shade. There is also a braai under the trees on the ground.
The treehouse sleeps 2 on a double bed. The tent is self catering with all bedding,towels and cutlery provided. There is a 2 plate gas stove,a microwave, hot water and fridge/freezer and electricity. The treehouse is more suitable to stay in spring, summer and autumn. Our winters are very cold!
